Candlemas On Sunday 4 th February we celebrated Candlemas. The service was conducted by The Right Reverend Bruce Cameron who confirmed three members in a joyful celebration. Following the service we all enjoyed cake with our cuppas.
Prayer Group Lenten Service On Wednesday 21 st March, the Prayer Group organised a Lenten Service, based on ‘Walking the Wilderness - A Communion Liturgy for Lent’ by Pat Bennett and published by Wild Goose Publications (Part of the Iona Community). The theme of the service was following Christ on his 40 days and nights in the wilderness through prayer and hymns.
Good Friday A very moving and powerful Good Friday service was held on Friday 30 th March at noon. The theme of the service was focusing on our senses. There were a number of readings and responses, with some silent reflection and prayer designed to help us enter more deeply into the sounds and actions of Good Friday. The service closed with communion from the reserved sacrament ending with a blessing and the extinguishing of the last candle. The clergy and congregation then left in silence.
Easter Sunday A large congregation gathered to celebrate The Resurrection on 1 st April. There was a spectacular display of flowers decorating our Church especially after the starkness of Lent. Many thanks to Jane Legge and her team of floral arrangers who did an incredible job which was appreciated by all who attended. After the service the congregation were treated to three different types of hot cross buns and chocolate eggs courtesy of the Social Committee.
Mediterranean Night On the evening of 4 th May, the Social and Fundraising Committee hosted a Mediterranean Night. Southern European themed food was served and during the evening there were various quizzes and a raffle. The evening was rounded off with a sing-along to Dean Martin. It was announced at the service on Sunday 6 th May that the total raised for the evening was £450.00.
Craft Gin Tasting On Friday 15 th July, the Social and Fundraising Committee organised a Craft Gin Tasting Evening. There were four different gin based products for testing (two flavoured gins and two liqueurs (the bramble liqueur being a unanimous hit). In between tastings there were plenty of nibbles for everyone. Many thanks to Carlo for introducing the group to BOE Gin.
Craft Group To celebrate the last session before the summer holidays, Marjorie and Norman served the ladies with an afternoon tea which consisted of sandwiches, scones, cakes and biscuits.
Patronal Festival A large congregation celebrated our Patronal Festival on Sunday 1 st July on a wonderfully sunny day. After the service the congregation were treated to a bring and share lunch.
Strawberry Tea On Saturday 7 th July, the Social & Fundraising Committee organised a Strawberry Tea. The weather was fantastic which helped draw in a large crowd who samples scones, pancakes with strawberry jam, strawberries and cream. There were also a jar tombola and various craft tables. Many thanks to all who assisted in making this a very enjoyable afternoon.
Ordination of Carol Latimer Carol was ordained on Sunday 15 th July by Bishop Kevin (our interim bishop) at a service held in St Serf’s, Burntisland.
Craft Group The Craft Group restarted on Tuesday 21 st August at which there was a good turn-out. Marjorie introduced the ladies to Kimekomi (the decoration of polystyrene ball with fabric). The ladies started practice with a 4 panel design and on the 2 nd week progressed to 6 and 12 panel designs. See photographs for progress.
Photography as Prayer St Peter’s has been selected to host the launch of the ‘Photography as Prayer’ exhibition . There was a good turn-out to view the selection of photographs including those which were short-listed for inclusion in the proposed Diocesan Calendar for 2019. Further exhibitions are as follows: St Andrew’s, St Andrews - 14 th September St John’s, Perth - 21 st September Holy Trinity, Stirling - 29 th September St Catherine’s, Blairgowrie - 5 th October Holy, Trinity, Pitlochry - 12 th October Try to make one of the venues as the photographs are quite inspiring.
Craft Group After the Kimekomi venture, the group continued with the 4 new banners. To date two have been completed, a third is close to being finished and the fourth is still work in progress.
Harvest Thanksgiving On Sunday 23 rd September we held our Harvest Thanksgiving Service. The Church was decorated with some lovely floral displays. The large congregation generously donated food which was displayed at the altar and after the service was donated to the local food bank. After the service the congregation sat down to a delicious selection of home-made soups and roll lunch followed by tea/coffee and cake.
Fish ‘n’ Chip & Quiz Night On Friday 28 th September, the Social and Fundraising Committee had organised the above event. The quiz consisted of questions on European Flags, Fishy Anagrams, Know your flowers, Name the Musicals, ‘Fishy’ Knowledge, Scottish General Knowledge and Know your trees. The results of the Quiz was the closest ever with the 10 teams finishing within 9.5 points of each other. During the quiz we all enjoyed delicious snack of fish ‘n’ chips.
Consecration and Installation of Bishop Ian Paton On Saturday 20 th October, the Revd Canon Ian Paton was officially installed as Bishop Ian of the Diocese of St Andrews, Dunblane and Dunkeld by our Primus, Bishop Mark Strange.
Thursday Group Christmas Lunch The Group together with spouses and friends travelled to the Kingswood Hotel, Burntisland on Friday 6 th December for a Christmas Lunch. We congregated in the conservatory, the company was very jolly and there was a comprehensive menu catering for all tastes.
Craft Group Tuesday 11 th December was our last meeting of the Craft Group for 2018. To celebrate we had nibbles and drinks while making Kimekomi balls which were sold on the Christmas craft table. In attendance were a couple of special guests who are four-legged friends of Bubbles.
Carol Service On Sunday 16 th December we held our annual Carol Service. This year we combined this with our morning Eucharist and this was well received by those attending. The church was beautifully decorated with countless floral displays, many thanks to Janey and her helpers. Also on display were the four new banners made by the Craft Group which brightened the rear wall of the Church. The congregation were also met with prayer angels at the pews and these were to be taken home as a memory of the day. We all enjoyed the well-loved carols chosen by the congregation and readings for the Christmas season. After the service we retired to the hall for hot mincemeat pies and tea or coffee supplied by the Social Committee.
